Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union on the alignment of certain third countries with the Council Decisions 2009/1003/CFSP and 2010/186/CFSP concerning restrictive measures against the Republic of Guinea

On 27 October 2009, the Council adopted Common Position 2009/788/CFSP imposing targeted restrictive measures against the Republic of Guinea.

On 22 December 2009, the Council adopted Decision 2009/1003/CFSP1 amending Common Position 2009/788/CFSP and including a ban on the export to the Republic of Guinea of equipment which might be used for internal repression. Moreover, additional persons were added to the list of persons subject to restrictive measures.

On 29 March 2010, the Council adopted decision 2010/186/CFSP1 amending common position 2009/788 considering that there are no longer grounds for keeping certain persons on the lists of persons, entities and bodies to which the restrictive measures apply. This declaration is made to announce that the following countries have declared that they share the objectives of Council Decisions 2009/1003/CFSP and 2010/186/CFSP: the candidate countries Turkey, Croatia* and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, the countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area.

They will ensure that their national policies conform to these Council Decisions.

The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.

* Croatia and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.
